My Fourth Blog

Today I am going to be talking to you about the Bundesliga. This is the top division in the German football league. Below I am going to show a video which demonstrates the huge standard of the league.

The bundesliga has the highest average attendance per game in the world. It was only after a 1-0 loss by the German national team to Yugoslavia in the 1962 World Cup quarter final, was a national league made. It was created in Dortmund on the 28th of July 1962 by a new president of football in German who had only been elected that very day. When the league was formed there were five different leagues in Germany due to its division. Out of these leagues, 46 teams applied to join the new Bundesliga. Only 16 teams were picked. These decisions were made due to the teams success both on and off the field. The very first game in the Bundesliga was played on the 23rd of August 1963. FC Koln enede up winning the first ever season.

Over the last ten years Bayern Munich have proved to be unstoppable winning seven of ten Bundesliga titles. This includes winning five in a row from the 2013 season to the 2017 season. The only other teams to win the the last ten years have been Borussia Dortmund, who won in 2011 and 2012, and Wolfsburg who won in 2009.

My Third Blog

Today in my third blog I will be talking to you about another one of the top five leagues in the world- La Liga Santander. This is the Spanish league. UEFA have called it the top league in the world for the last five years with Barcelona and Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid dominating.
As La Liga entered a new era in the 2000s, there was a shift in the standings. Between 1993 and 2004 Deportivo la Coruna finished the season in the top three ten times. This was topped off by a La Liga title in 2000. Real Madrid answered by winning the league in 2001 and 2003 but also won the champions league in 2000 and 2002. However they were being challenged by a strong Valencia side that ended up as the champions league runners up for both 2001 and 2002. They then won La Liga in 2002 and won the double in 2004.
In the 2004/05 season Barcelona were inspired by the brilliance of Ronaldinho  to winning their first La Liga title of the 2000s which led them on to completing the Champions League/ La Liga double in the 2005/06 season. It was then Real Madrid's turn for success as they won La Liga for the next two years before Pep Guardiolas Barcelona won La Liga for three years in a row thanks to players like Messi and Xavi. In 2010 three teams emerged as the three biggest clubs in Spain. They were Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. Over the next few years it was a constant battle between the three teams for the prestigious title of winning the La Liga.

My Second Blog

In my second blog I am going to be talking to you about one of the most famous leagues in the world, the Premier League.
The Premier League is the top league in England. It consists of twenty teams- 19 teams from England and 1 team from Wales. The competition was formed in 1992 when each club decided to leave the English Football League, which was founded in 1888 and start a new league. This meant that they would be able to benefit from the tv rights deals making a much better profit.

At the start of the premier league era, the table was dominated by four clubs known as the 'big four'. These teams finished in the top four of the league year upon year taking all four Champions League spots between them. They were Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea. However this changed in the 2011/12 season when Manchester City became the first team outside of the big four to win the premier league since 1994/95 season. This change also saw Tottenham Hotspur finish inside the top four in both the 2015/16 and 2016/17 seasons coming third and the second. Now this group is know as the big six and consists of the former big with the addition for Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur.

What sets the Premier League apart from every other league in the world is the huge rivalries to win the prized trophy. In most other leagues there are only a few teams in the running to win the trophy but in the Premier League there are a much bigger group of teams in contention to win the trophy. There is also the fact that anything can happen in the Premier league as Leister showed in the 2015/16 season, winning the league against all the odds. After nearly being relegated in the season before Leicester City produced a magical season earning them the right to lift the Premier League trophy. These are just some of the reason the Premier League is the most popular league in world football.

My introduction

Hello. This is my first blog and over the course of the next five blogs I am going to be talking to you about the geography of football. I will focus on the top four leagues in Europe- The Premier League (England), La Liga (Spain), The Bundesliga (Germany) and Ligue 1 (France).

Firstly I am going to talk about football in general. Football is the most popular sport in the world. There are over 200 FIFA registered countries that play football.
The rules were first drawn up in England in 1863 and these rules still control the game today. The game today is controlled by Fédération Internationale de Football Association or more commonly know as FIFA. FIFA are responsible for organising the major competitions in football such as the world cup, which is held every four years. This is footballs most popular competition with around 28 billion people watching around the world.

Football is a changing game, with new technology changing it for the better. Goal line technology was added in 2013 making it easier for the officials to see whether a ball had crossed the line when challenged with difficult circumstances. Edin Dzeko was the first player in the premier league to have his goal awarded by the new technology.
Even more recent is VAR. This is video assistance for the referees and will be used to make sure the referees decisions are the correct ones.
All of these changes can only be good for football and its advance.
